Here’s today’s inspiration: “Deliver me from writers who say the way they live doesn’t matter. I’m not sure a bad person can write a good book. If art doesn’t make us better, then what on earth is it for?”

I had to read the entire quote to be able to say that I agree. Depends upon how we define “bad” and how we judge a “good book.” But that’s what writing and reading are about.
It’s definitely a subjective thing. I had never thought about it before reading this quote – and I’m not even sure I agree with the sentiment. Just want to poke people a little bit. The last part IS true, though – if art isn’t about making us better, why are we doing it? Thanks for the comment, Sharon!
